People come to see me because they feel huge amounts of responsibility for taking care of others at their own expense. They feel like they have to prove something in order to feel worthy. They worry if they aren't always there for others, that they will be abandoned. They feel like they aren't allowed to express their needs or feelings because it might hurt someone else.

My goal as your therapist is to help you see your inherent worth as a person, regardless of your ability to be a good partner, friend, child, parent, etc. When you let go of the pressure to do or be everything for everyone, you allow yourself to have more authentic and loving relationships. I am a Florida and Vermont Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy. I hold a Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling and have been working with people experiencing trauma for over a decade. I am passionate about supporting people experiencing trauma, anxiety, and relationship issues, and am especially interested in supporting people in building healthier, more loving relationships with themselves!

Trauma

Trauma is the response to a scary or dangerous experience. Trauma can result from one big incident, as well as multiple smaller events that happen repeatedly. Unhealed trauma can show up as anxiety, depression, substance misuse, codependency, physical illness, and much more. Trauma is stored in the body and needs to be released to fully heal.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal emotion that lets us know when we are in danger or experiencing stress. Sometimes, anxiety becomes overactive and alerts us to everything that could be a potential threat. Therapy can be helpful for addressing anxiety and soothing the nervous system so we can be more discerning about what is an actual threat to our safety.

Codependency

Codependency is the experience of needing another person to make you feel whole. Some people need to feel needed to feel complete, but this can lead to exhaustion and burnout. Others look to be taken care of, but give up their own power in the process. Codependency often comes from not having your needs met early in life, and serves as a way to help you feel safe. Therapy can help break this pattern and help you develop new ways of being in relationship with others.
